Reflection: The Humble See What the Proud Miss
Life often rewards the loud, the smart, the calculating. But today’s Gospel flips that script. Jesus praises the Father for hiding deep truths from the “wise and learned” and revealing them to the “little ones.”
This is not a jab at intelligence. It is a warning against pride.
When we insist on understanding everything by our own strength, we miss grace. When we try to control the mystery of God, we lose the wonder. But the humble heart—open, listening, trusting—receives treasures hidden from the proud.
In Exodus, Moses approaches the burning bush. He removes his sandals. He hides his face. He doesn’t argue. He listens. That’s the posture of the humble. And that’s where revelation begins.
Fr. Jude’s nugget reminds us: “The Kingdom of God reverses worldly order.” Yes, it does. God does not play by our rules. He bends down to the lowly. He speaks in whispers to the quiet soul.
Do you want to hear Him? Then unclench your heart. Stop performing. Just be small.

Prayer
Lord,
I’ve tried to be strong and clever.
But today I want to be small enough to hear You.
Give me the wisdom that comes from trust,
the joy that comes from letting go,
and the light that only the humble see.
Amen.
