Reflection:
How can a nation be saved when the hearts of its people have been trained to admire thieves in high places? When those who manipulate the system are praised and rewarded, while the honest, transparent, and morally upright are insulted, mocked, or ignored?
Today’s Gospel recounts how Jesus, despite His wisdom and works, was rejected by His own people. Not because He failed, but because He didn’t fit their expectations. He was too familiar, too “ordinary” to be believed. In many ways, our generation behaves the same. We mock the voices that speak truth from among us and idolize the distant ones who oppress us.
We live in a time where criticism is monetized. Those who insult the good are often paid, praised, or platformed. The result? A spiritually diseased society where sickness festers not just in hospitals but in boardrooms, parliaments, pulpits, and homes.
It is not enough to lament corruption. We must refuse to participate in its reward system. Choose to honour integrity, even when it’s not loud. Uphold those who walk the narrow path, even when they stumble.
God always sends prophets, but many die unknown because we lack the eyes to recognize them.
