Scripture
“There are also many other things that Jesus did; if every one of them were written down, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.”
— John 21:25

Reflection
This verse offers one of the clearest scriptural affirmations of the Catholic belief in Sacred Tradition. St. John, the beloved disciple, ends his Gospel by reminding us that not all of Jesus’ words and works were written down. What we have in Scripture is inspired and complete in purpose—but not exhaustive.
The Catholic Church teaches that Divine Revelation comes through both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition (cf. Dei Verbum, 9–10). Tradition is not a human addition; it is the living transmission of the faith, handed down from the apostles and safeguarded by the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
To ask “Is it in the Bible?” is not wrong—but to ask it as the only test of Christian truth reflects an incomplete understanding. Many early Christians lived and died in the faith long before the New Testament was fully written or compiled. They followed what they received: the living faith of the Church.
Today’s nugget is a call to humility and balance. God’s truth is not bound by ink alone. As Catholics, we are invited to honor the Word and the living memory of the Church together—Scripture and Tradition as one unified voice.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, deepen my love for Your Word and open my heart to the fullness of Your teaching handed down through Your Church. Help me not to cling only to what is written, but to trust what You continue to speak through Your living Body.
